In the beginning...
Hashem made three types of creatures: the angels, the animals and the human beings.
The angels, He made from His pure word. Angels have no desire to do evil. They cannot deviate for a moment from His purpose.
Animals have only their instincts to guide them. They too follow the commands of their Creator.
The Torah states that Hashem spent almost six whole days of creation shaping these creatures.
Then, just before sunset, He took a small amount of earth and, from it, created man and woman.
An afterthought?
Or His greatest achievement?
So, what is this thing?
Man?
Woman?
It's a being with the power to disobey.
Among all creatures, we have free will.
We are suspended between the clarity of angels and the desires of animals.
Hashem has given us the choice, which is both a privilege and a burden.
So we must choose the tangled life we live.
